Could you wear the same dress every day for a year? Errrr no.

This is the question I stumbled upon as I scoured The Times online the other day and the quick answer to that is 'no'.

The extended answer - 'No. Clearly not, I would die of boredom'

And my counter question would be, 'why would I do this?' followed by 'why would anyone do this?'

And the answer to that would be:
'An exercise in sustainable fashion'.

I realise that sounded pretty poncy, but stay with me because I think Sheena Matheiken of The Uniform Project is on to something.

This the idea in her own words:

Here's the story: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accoutrements, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.

Here's the cause: The Uniform Project is also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for children living in Indian slums.

Here's how it works:

I like it! and the more I think about it, the more interesting and less puzzling it becomes.

It's like a mini social experiment that high-lights a few good things we could all do well with remembering.

1. Most people don't have more than 7 pieces of clothes to wear neither do they have a wardrobe.

2. Having MORE stuff may be making you LESS creative - it's kind of like that 'less TV, more books, better imagination' equation, which I fully believe in (sorry future kids).

3. One should set one's self more challenges so as not to become pathetic and flabby in mind, spirit and body.

4. And lastly, it serves as a reminder that to have an idea and turn ACTUALLY turn it into a reality is what a truly worthy mission.

I'm going support this, maybe I'll send her my yellow fascinator or the black one, or maybe both???

and I'll start my one in one out policy (I'll expand on this later).

This is Sheena, ain't she fab

Check out The Uniform Project site and support Sheena if you can!
