Carine Continued...

So I watched it! Finally! and I hate to be a fashion cliché but she is fab. I don't love her (because I don't know her), she isn't an icon in my eyes (Nelson Mandela and Maya Angelou are for me) but I plain and simply like her. I like her style, her approach to work and I like that I get a real sense of a real human being as opposed to a fashion darh-ling that so often people feel they have to be in this industry ....but of course darh-ling how else will you know that I am super CRE-A-TIVE...darh-ling. There was none of that, what you got was a real person with a real job with a real family and that is SOOOOO STYLISTIC....darh-ling!

The Lust List

My lust-list for summer is getting longer, fiercer and more expensive! Working where I work, leaves me in precarious position most days. Surrounded by clothes whilst within reaching distance of my debit card (I have a self imposed ban on credits cards), everyday is exercise in self-restraint… No, you will not buy these shoes that are the equivalent of a months mortgage”, “no, you cannot buy these and live on a diet of air and water until your next paycheque comes in” “no, walking to work is not a really an option”.

*Sigh* anyways I’d thought I’d share with you some of the items on my Lust List for this summer ‘09 (said like a true fashion victim). Most will be left in the store for the financially fortunate amongst us and I will make do with high-street copies or better still hit the sample sales with abated breath, of course.

WARNING!!!!:These images may cause dizzy spells, heart palpitations and extreme excitment!

Recession!? It's fashion darh-ling!

I am a little tired of the following phrases: recession chic, depression chic and worst yet recessionista. I’m bored of the fashion show write ups leading with “despite the recession” or “regardless of the recession???” Look we get it! We know , you know that there is a recession and we totally get the quandary.

After all the economy is crashing around us like toy planes and you have to sell yet another statement shoe or write about shows that could collectively prop up a small nation’s economy. But what makes everyone from Grazia up think we require these clunky headers or sad little disclaimers before the introduction of our £3500 must-have Balmain jacket?

Yes, the economy is in downward turn to put it lightly, but the truth is most of us want our fashion fodder without the reality bite tag line. Plus, it seems a little pointless, insincere even, to ask after a fashion show ‘how the economy has affected its mood?’ I’m sure the designers themselves are a little less plush but creatively what is one to do? Send burlap sacs down the runway or plastic bags on feet? No! I should hope not, not unless there is silk obi-style belt to cinch in that sac or a 41/2 heels attached to that bit of non-degradable plastic!

Fashion is both a practical and a luxury good and those that indulge in it a luxury sport will continue to do so despite the recession, and the rest of us? We'll keep on trudging down to Topshop, Kos and our local vintage shop - as we have always done.

So stop the patronising, stop trying to be in sync with the climate and stop with the apologies it's fashion darh-ling! And as my beloved John Galliano succintly put it “I'm aware of the credit crunch, but it is not a creative crunch,". Hear hear I say my sentiments exactly…so quick, send out the gowns!!!!

So it is to him that I tribute this next video featuring A/W 09 pieces with their heads firmly in the sand.

“Recession!? recession!? What recession?????”
